Stand Up Comedy on Healthcare, Immigration, Abortion & Obama.

The left ridicules but the right has comedy.  Here's a short that addresses some of the political hot buttons today.

The Pro-Choice Public Education Project Holds That There Should Be More Abortions.

With the Clintons, the position was:  Make abortions safe, legal and rare.  With Obama it became make abortion legal but try to reduce the need for it by addressing the causes of abortion.  (On the side, though sounding humanitarian and compassionate, these positions are still immoral.  And I think those were just words in Obama's case.)

Yesterday, we read in a liberal website, that abortion should be more not less and is actually good for the health of the woman.  Aimée Thorne-Thomsen of  Pro-Choice Public Education Project writes,  "On the other hand, if those 1.21 million abortions represent only the women who could access abortion financially, geographically or otherwise, then that number is too low. Yes, too low. If that’s the case, then what is an appropriate response? How do we best support women and their reproductive health? Do we dare admit that increasing the number of abortions might be not only good for women’s health, but also moral and just?"

It is hard to understand how some people can be so blinded about the personhood of an unborn child.  I guess if one has been stunted into being a perpetual child, then one's capacity to see others outside oneself is equally impaired.  And I thought women had a maternal instinct.

Voting your conscience is not always right.

In short, conscience may not always be right. And one is not obliged to follow a sick or erroneous conscience. So the advice to follow one's conscience is deficient. It needs to be a well-formed and healthy conscience.

Examples of sick consciences are scrupulosity and laxity. The first feels guilt where there is no sin, the latter feels no guilt despite the sin. And if one has a sick conscience, then one needs to see a spiritual director for "treatment".

If one's conscience is healthy, then there is still a need to inform or educate it. The bishops issued guidelines in a document entitled "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States" where it was stated:

34. Catholics often face difficult choices about how to vote. This is why it is so important to vote according to a well-formed conscience that perceives the proper relationship among moral goods. A Catholic cannot vote for a candidate who takes a position in favor of an intrinsic evil, such as abortion or racism, if the voter’s intent is to support that position. In such cases a Catholic would be guilty of formal cooperation in grave evil. At the same time, a voter should not use a candidate’s
opposition to an intrinsic evil to justify indifference or inattentiveness to other important moral issues involving human life and dignity.

42. As Catholics we are not single-issue voters. A candidate’s position on a single issue is not sufficient to guarantee a voter’s support. Yet a candidate’s position on a single issue that involves an intrinsic evil, such as support for legal abortion or the promotion of racism, may legitimately lead a voter to disqualify a candidate from receiving support.

These and others would have made it clear to any conscientious Catholic that a vote for Obama was immoral. However, others did not see it that way because they were mislead by fake Catholic groups who misrepresented the Catholic standards and by the politicians themselves who misrepresented their positions. Because of this, one has the duty to get down to the truth by looking at the candidate's voting records and past activities to confirm the veracity of his claims.

Policy wordings hamstring analysis; POTUS' word meaningless, no credibility

I create software for a living. In the olden days, programs are ordered to do stuff via commands. Those commands are defined in a lexicon. So, one cannot type anything and expect the program to do it. If it is not in the lexicon, the program will simply throw it in the garbage condition and stare back at you with a blinking cursor. Then you turn into a cursor yourself as you articulate expletives. ( If you do that over and over again, that become recursive - but I am getting too technical. So back to my point. ) If a direction or a concept is not in the dictionary or the lexicon, then it does not exist.

Because of this I am glad my analysis and programming work is related to the financial and not the defense industry. I have read that the analysts there cannot use terms that refer to Islamic fanaticism or Muslim extremism anymore. So, related concepts like jihad (holy war) and fatwa (teachings) are also out. When you purge these out then how can you do analysis of terrorism incidents or threats that are caused by these elements. Do you mask it with a generic label? It would be really difficult to do a bang up job without those words - if at all. It seems like those who gave those orders wanted it that way.

So that is the impact of removing terms from policies and reports. Now let's look at redefining terms like promises, commitments and the like. The Germans have a saying, "Ein Mann, ein Wort" literally "One Man, one word" meaning "A Promise is a promise." And if that is not happening, then there is no integrity or oneness. As the Indians would say, "You speak with a forked tongue." When that applies to Obama, it is no longer surprising. What is appalling though is the lack of remorse over his lies.

This morning, Obama said he would not ask the debt commission to abide by his campaign promise when it produces its recommendations. In his words, "Of course this means that all of you, our friends in the media, will ask me and others once a week, or once a day, about what we are willing to rule out or rule in when it comes to the recommendations of the commission. That’s an old Washington game…so I wanted to deliver this message today: we’re not playing that game. I’m not gonna say what’s in, I’m not gonna say what’s out".

So, his promises to the voters have no binding effect when the rubber meets the road. And holding him accountable to those is a game. I wonder how Michelle feels about his wedding vow now. And we know that the promissory note that he gave Bart Stupak to preclude tax dollars from funding abortion is toilet paper. We have a president who cannot be taken at his word anymore. That's why I change the channel whenever he comes up, though I sometimes listen to sense how crap sounds. But the serious part is, this man is running the country. All I can do is vote him out later.

Why the private sector can't still create jobs.

"Red tape isn’t the only thing hamstringing American business. The Obama administration has sent plenty of price signals on taxes and burdensome regulation that will keep investors and businesses from betting on expansion. As long as the administration pursues those policies, it will keep the engine of American economic growth bound and gagged." (1)

What's worse is that we should have recovered by now.  Based on business cycles, jobs return around a year at the latest.  It's 2 years and half and there is still 10% unemployment and more  underemployment.  What extended the recession is the government intervention that intended to curb it.  Could an administration favoring businesses enacted better policies?  You bectha.

Video: Rally to raise taxes. Here's why.

Here's a recent rally for taxes.  And if you watch the interviews, you'll see that the participants are members of SEIU and bused in.  But why would anyone want that now?  Well, first of all it is not going to affect this group so, it is actually to raise taxes on the other guy.  Secondly, it is to allow the government to continue spending.  I just saw Obama on the TV talking about addressing debt because if it doesn't then it could erode the country’s ability to educate its children, care for the elderly or mount a robust national defense.  So either stop spending or fleece the people more.

But the Obama does not want to cut spending.  If he did then he wouldn’t be pushing massive expansions of federal government like ObamaCare and the upcoming cap-and-trade bill. And the SEIU wouldn't want that either otherwise it's chief, Andy Stern,  wouldn’t be sitting on that panel to find ways to reduce the bureaucracies that pour dues into his union’s pockets, especially now that his pension and retirement count on boosting membership.

And so, this is why we have people who want to get more of that gravy train rolling at the tax payers expense of course.

Stop the Haters: FreedomWorks responds (Video)

In light of GeicoGate and the recent accusations from the media regarding the violent rhetoric of the conservative movement, Right Wing News took the liberty of editing together the voicemails and emails we've received as a result of DC Douglas' call to contact FreedomWorks. Here's the result.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSQIYStgBYY&feature=player_embedded

These are Obama's supporters.  So, who's the hater?

Law: Obama's fans seek to gag Tea Partiers. Is Protest Incitement?

During the Tea Party at DC on Tax Day, a lawyer came up to a group and at end of his questioning asserted that the Tea Party is causing violence because of it's protests i.e. "the wackos think that they're doing what we want them to do."    I'll embed the video when I find it.  Yesterday while exchanging thoughts at the Tea Party Facebook page, I noted that, "I hope the sanctity of the electoral process will not be tampered or any way compromised." as a response to the question "Ballots or bullets?".  Immediately, an Obama supporter accused me of threatening the president and threatened to report me.  The same accusations of slander and libel keep getting hurled at these sites from Obama's supporters in an attempt to silence or intimidate the Tea Party.

In 2007, the Supreme Court decided Morse v. Frederick, better-known as the "Bong Hits for Jesus" case. Justice Stevens wrote a dissent and was joined by Justices Souter and Ginsburg. His dissent helps delineate the view of what constitutes controversial, even patriotic, speech and protest from actual incitement of unlawful conduct. This is a relevant portion:

"To the extent the Court defers to the principal's ostensibly reasonable judgment, it abdicates its constitutional responsibility. The beliefs of third parties, reasonable or otherwise, have never dictated which messages amount to proscribable advocacy. Indeed, it would be a strange constitutional doctrine that would allow the prohibition of only the narrowest category of speech advocating unlawful conduct, see Brandenburg [v. Ohio], yet would permit a listener's perceptions to determine which speech deserved constitutional protection.
:
Such a peculiar doctrine is alien to our case law. In Abrams v. United States, this Court affirmed the conviction of a group of Russian "rebels, revolutionists, [and] anarchists," on the ground that the leaflets they distributed were thought to "incite, provoke, and encourage resistance to the United States." Yet Justice Holmes' dissent -- which has emphatically carried the day-never inquired into the reasonableness of the United States' judgment that the leaflets would likely undermine the war effort. The dissent instead ridiculed that judgment: "nobody can suppose that the surreptitious publishing of a silly leaflet by an unknown man, without more, would present any immediate danger that its opinions would hinder the success of the government arms or have any appreciable tendency to do so." In Thomas v. Collins, we overturned the conviction of a union organizer who violated a restraining order forbidding him from exhorting workers. In so doing, we held that the distinction between advocacy and incitement could not depend on how one of those workers might have understood the organizer's speech. That would "pu[t] the speaker in these circumstances wholly at the mercy of the varied understanding of his hearers and consequently of whatever inference may be drawn as to his intent and meaning." In Cox v. Louisiana, we vacated a civil rights leader's conviction for disturbing the peace, even though a Baton Rouge sheriff had "deem[ed]" the leader's "appeal to ... students to sit in at the lunch counters to be 'inflammatory.'" We never asked if the sheriff's in-person, on-the-spot judgment was "reasonable." Even in [Bethel School Dist. No. 403] v. Fraser, we made no inquiry into whether the school administrators reasonably thought the student's speech was obscene or profane; we rather satisfied ourselves that "[t]he pervasive sexual innuendo in Fraser's speech was plainly offensive to both teachers and students -- indeed, to any mature person." See also, Bose Corp. v. Consumers Union of United States, Inc. ("[I]n cases raising First Amendment issues we have repeatedly held that an appellate court has an obligation to make an independent examination of the whole record in order to make sure that the judgment does not constitute a forbidden intrusion on the field of free expression.")
:
The Vietnam War is remembered today as an unpopular war. During its early stages, however, "the dominant opinion" that Justice Harlan mentioned in his Tinker [v. Des Moines Independent Community School Dist.] dissent regarded opposition to the war as unpatriotic, if not treason. That dominant opinion strongly supported the prosecution of several of those who demonstrated in Grant Park during the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago, see United States v. Dellinger, and the vilification of vocal opponents of the war like Julian Bond. In 1965, when the Des Moines students wore their armbands, the school district's fear that they might "start an argument or cause a disturbance" was well founded. Given that context, there is special force to the Court's insistence that "our Constitution says we must take that risk; and our history says that it is this sort of hazardous freedom -- this kind of openness -- that is the basis of our national strength and of the independence and vigor of Americans who grow up and live in this relatively permissive, often disputatious, society." As we now know, the then-dominant opinion about the Vietnam War was not etched in stone."

Every night, I give my kids a talk patterned after St. John Bosco's Goodnight Talk.  I take an incident during the day to derive a moral lesson.  The kids, 10,8,7 & 2, get really interested when I use their experiences as a springboard.  Although I was trained as an educator and youth minister, I have some gaps as my focus was on teens.  This was filled recently when I stumbled upon this resource that identifies the age appropriate moral formation.  It is available online at:

Paul Ryan: Obama Leading America On "Dangerous Path" To Welfare State

Rep. Paul Ryan tells Newsmax that America is at a “tipping point” and could be headed down a “very dangerous” path toward a social welfare state.  But it does not have to go there because there are alternatives.  Unfortunately, the alternatives are not aligned to the Socialistic ideology of Obama.  So, as they said, "When the people voted for Obama, they signed up for Socialism."  Is that really true because the majority of the people are making their opposition known.  So, it is obvious that the people do not like Socialism.  But the Democrats do and since they can change the country, they are going to do so whether the people likes it or not.   So, what are you going to do about it?

The American people have been abused and betrayed by their trusted officials.  But the people patiently await the proper and peaceful way to effect change through the existing electoral processes.  However, the incumbents continue to ram unjust laws without shame or guilt.  It is as though they have a plan to stay in power no matter what.  That remains to be seen because we the people will not forget!  We shall remember!

Video: Now we see what's in the law that Obama pushed.

They passed the Healthcare Reform law so that we will find out what's in it.  I objected to that tactic along with the majority of the US population but, the Democrats passed it anyway because they can.  So, now we're beginning to see what the GOP warned us about though it's but the tip of the iceberg.  Here's the rest that's soon to follow.  The way this law was made is criminal.  Justice requires that the law be repealed and those who implemented it need be impeached.

This report comes from actuaries from Medicare and Medicaid. Medical costs will skyrocket rising $389 billion 10 years. 14 million will lose employer-based coverage. Millions will be left without insurance. And millions more will be may be dumped into the already overwhelmed Medicaid system. 4 million American families will be hit with tax penalties under this new law.

The video is an animation of worldwide air travel where each dot represents a plane during a 24 hour period.  One gains a realistic scale of our place in the universe.  We are but a speck in the time and space continuum.  That perspective can tone down our tragedies if ever we are inclined to take ourselves too seriously.  And humility is just that - realizing that we are humus - a speck of dirt.  Everything comes from God, everything is for God and all our abilities and opportunities are an extension of God's creative power of which we are but stewards and will be held accountable.

Video: 18 yr. old. on way to sainthood. Beatification this Sept. 25, 2010

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GxP4z2-MLA&feature=player_embedded#!

April 22, 2010. The Italian youth Chiara Luce Badano is an example for many youths and the sick despite her death at only 18 years of age. Her heroic way of facing cancer didn’t just surprise her parents and her friends. On September 25 she will be proclaimed blessed.

Chiara was born in 1971. Her father was a truck driver and her mother a housewife. A sports fan, those who knew her described her as an open girl, concerned for others and very close to her parents. The three were members of the Focolare Movement.

“Her mother says Chiara and her would exchange small acts of kindness. They kept track by collecting pebbles in their pockets. In the end Chiara always had more pebbles than her mother .”

“I have seen all the coherence and the radicalism of Chiara’s life in the life of her parents.”

At age nine she found the spirit of the Focolare Movement in a festival celebrated in Rome. It caught the attention of the Badano family, which shared everything. From this moment, they joined the movement, and the young Chiara and the founder, Chiara Lubich, formed a great friendship, which is reflected in the letters they sent each other.

“Chiara Luce is the name that Chiara Lubich would give her after the long correspondence they had since she was a child. She got this name in the last period of her life.”

“Chiara began to write her letters addressed to Chiara Lubich with ‘hi mom’, which shows that for her she was like a mother. And Chiara has known God through the movement founded by Chiara Lubich.”

One day, the 17-year old was playing when she felt a sharp pain in her back. After several tests, the doctors thought it was a problem with her spinal cord. It turned out to be a malignant tumor. When they diagnosed her, it was very advanced. She had two operations, without success.

“In the last moments she refused morphine that could have lessened her physical pain, because she entered into another logic, the one to offer everything. At one moment she said, the only thing left is the pain, and if I can’t offer this, what can I offer?”

“She got sick when she was a teenager and died while she was young, but always trying to live through difficulties with a smile, trying to be love for everyone else.”

Benedict XVI has recognized as a miracle through Chiara Luce’s intercession the extraordinary cure of an Italian boy with a grave illness. Now the 18-year-old girl will be raised to the altar on September 25.

(H/T http://agangershome.blogspot.com/ )

The opposition ridicules Conservatives as having some sort of  a cognitive dissonance, "being angry at something they cannot put their finger on".  While that is not exactly an indicator of inferiority, the conservatives are chided as being "low-information" voters - a euphemism for being ignorant and stupid.

There is indeed an uneasiness because things cannot be painted in stark colors where evil is dark and menacing and good is the underdog struggling against all odds.  In fact, how many times have the liberals and their friends in the media tried to turn the tables around albeit falsely attacking the Tea Partiers as racists and the Pope as a pedophile.  Yet the man on the street feels that something just doesn't sit right;  that there's something going on - something insidious.  And that sense of the people may not be far off from the reality of the slow demise of the American ideal as foreseen by Alexis de Tocqueville (cfr. Democracy in America).  Michael Ledeen recently wrote, de Tocqueville knew that "we will not be bludgeoned into submission; we will be seduced."

Tocqueville foresaw the collapse of American democracy as the end result of two parallel developments that ultimately render us meekly subservient to an enlarged bureaucratic power: the corruption of our character, and the emergence of a vast welfare state that manages all the details of our lives.

Just as the Austrians placed the red carpet to usher the Nazis to rule over them, we have voted the Democrats to fix our financial mess despite their words that hint on Totalitarianism.  We didn't care as long as we get that quick fix away from Enron, the mortgage collapse and recession - no matter what the cost.  That is how our character is corrupted - when we sold the soul of the American ideal.

The whirlwind continues as liberals with neither honor nor dignity use tactics e.g. the Alinsky method to obfuscate, mislead, misinform, confuse, ridicule and confound their opponents.  There is no honest dialogue where both parties seek the truth and the solution to problems.  There is only a contest, a debate, a moot court where the opponent is put down for points.

So, the common people are indeed confused because they hear the administration and law makers talk in a sincere tone, feigning compassion and good will, while making laws and policies that take away  freedoms as a small price to pay.

Reflection of a guilt ridden tea partier

I have a son who stopped breathing through his nose and a wife who is squirming in pain. What if I didn’t have insurance? All these rushed through my mind as I drove them to the doctors. I have work but took the day off yesterday.  Being away made we worry about my job.  What if I were like my brother and friends who after months are still jobless?   All these made me reflect about my position against the insurance reform. Have I hardened my heart to those who are in dire straits?

I read that the supporters of the culture of dependence came from those making less than $50K and those making more than $200K. Those were the people who voted for Obama - those who need help and those who want to change the system to help them. They’re really not bad people; but for the grace of God, I too would be among those needing a handout.

Those in between are those who resist the culture of dependence.  I doubt if they are uncaring towards the plight of the poor. On the contrary, statistics show that these people give more to charity than those who think that the government should redistribute the wealth. And that’s where I find myself today.  Through taxes,  I am funding Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid that provides healthcare for the poor.  And I don't mind.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rQ7zQSCEgQ&feature=player_embedded

I still feel convinced that the Health Care Law should be repealed because the reforms needed in the insurance industry will not be fixed by jumping from the frying pan to the fire. Because of that, I hate the Democrats for exploiting this crisis to advance their causes e.g. more government control and Socialism.

(About my son, he has allergies.  We'll try cleaning up his room first then consider allergy shots.  My wife's initial diagnosis was constipation. What can I say?)

3 Videos about Tea Party Crashers. Shows how nice the party is even to these guys.

I came from the third world and saw my share of student activism.  If someone from the opposite camp ever infiltrated a demonstration, that person would be risking his life or limb.  But that is not so with the Tea Party.  They were very clever in neutralizing the trouble makers without resorting to violence.  It was even humorous and fun to some extent.  This just shows you how nice these people truly are.

They just followed this guy around outing him with signs.

Truly this is the Greatest Country in the World. Don't Let Freedom Slip Away By Kitty Werthmann

Next to religious and inspirational stories, this is one of the best reads that I have come across lately.  I am passionate for freedom because I have seen it curtailed where I came from.  However, this author,
Kitty Werthmann,  has experienced its loss in the worst possible way.  What is alarming is how the events and ideas that she recalls is hauntingly similar to what is happening today.  I have copied the entire article below from  http://seanlinnane.blogspot.com/2010/04/this-is-how-they-buy-you.html  Here is the complete article:

What I am about to tell you is something you've probably never heard or will ever read in history books.

I believe that I am an eyewitness to history. I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history. We elected him by a landslide - 98% of the vote . . . I've never read that in any American publications. Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.

Drag-a-Jew
In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates . . .

Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily. Young people were going from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn't want to work; there simply weren't any jobs. My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people - about 30 daily.

The Communist Party and the National Socialist Party were fighting each other. Blocks and blocks of cities like Vienna, Linz, and Graz were destroyed. The people became desperate and petitioned the government to let them decide what kind of government they wanted.

We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany , where Hitler had been in power since 1933. We had been told that they didn't have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living. Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group - Jewish or otherwise. We were led to believe that everyone was happy. We wanted the same way of life in Austria.

A Landslide Election
We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back. Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.

Welcomed in.

We were overjoyed, and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades. The new government opened up big field kitchens and everyone was fed. After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order. Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed. The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service.

Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women. Before this, it was a custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home, an able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn't support his family. Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.

Nazi Priests Salute Hitler

Hitler Targets Education - Eliminates Religious Instruction for Children:

Our education was nationalized. I attended a very good public school. The population was predominantly Catholic, so we had religion in our schools. The day we elected Hitler (March 13, 1938), I walked into my schoolroom to find the crucifix replaced by Hitler's picture hanging next to a Nazi flag. Our teacher, a very devout woman, stood up and told the class we wouldn't pray or have religion anymore. Instead, we sang "Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles," and had physical education.

Hitler Youth

Sunday became National Youth Day with compulsory attendance. Parents were not pleased about the sudden change in curriculum. They were told that if they did not send us, they would receive a stiff letter of warning the first time. The second time they would be fined the equivalent of $300, and the third time they would be subject to jail. The first two hours consisted of political indoctrination. The rest of the day we had sports. As time went along, we loved it. Oh, we had so much fun and got our sports equipment free. We would go home and gleefully tell our parents about the wonderful time we had.

My mother was very unhappy. When the next term started, she took me out of public school and put me in a convent. I told her she couldn't do that and she told me that someday when I grew up, I would be grateful. There was a very good curriculum, but hardly any fun - no sports, and no political indoctrination. I hated it at first but felt I could tolerate it. Every once in a while, on holidays, I went home. I would go back to my old friends and ask what was going on and what they were doing. Their loose lifestyle was very alarming to me. They lived without religion. By that time unwed mothers were glorified for having a baby for Hitler. It seemed strange to me that our society changed so suddenly. As time went along, I realized what a great deed my mother did so that I wasn't exposed to that kind of Humanistic philosophy.

Der Fuhrer Loves Kids

Equal Rights Hits Home:
In 1939, the war started and a food bank was established. All food was rationed and could only be purchased using food stamps. At the same time, a full-employment law was passed which meant if you didn't work, you didn't get a ration card, and if you didn't have a card, you starved to death. Women who stayed home to raise their families didn't have any marketable skills and often had to take jobs more suited for men.

Youth Labor Corps
Soon after this, the draft was implemented. It was compulsory for young people, male and female, to give one year to the labor corps. During the day, the girls worked on the farms, and at night they returned to their barracks for military training just like the boys. They were trained to be anti-aircraft gunners and participated in the signal corps. After the labor corps, they were not discharged but were used in the front lines. When I go back to Austria to visit my family and friends, most of these women are emotional cripples because they just were not equipped to handle the horrors of combat. Three months before I turned 18, I was severely injured in an air raid attack. I nearly had a leg amputated, so I was spared having to go into the labor corps and into military service.

Hitler Restructured the Family Through Daycare:

When the mothers had to go out into the work force, the government immediately established child care centers. You could take your children ages 4 weeks to school age and leave them there around-the-clock, 7 days a week, under the total care of the government. The state raised a whole generation of children. There were no motherly women to take care of the children, just people highly trained in child psychology. By this time, no one talked about equal rights. We knew we had been had.

Women to Work

Health Care and Small Business Suffer Under Government Controls:
Before Hitler, we had very good medical care. Many American doctors trained at the University of Vienna. After Hitler, health care was socialized, free for everyone. Doctors were salaried by the government. The problem was, since it was free, the people were going to the doctors for everything. When the good doctor arrived at his office at 8 a.m., 40 people were already waiting and, at the same time, the hospitals were full. If you needed elective surgery, you had to wait a year or two for your turn. There was no money for research as it was poured into socialized medicine. Research at the medical schools literally stopped, so the best doctors left Austria and emigrated to other countries.

As for healthcare, our tax rates went up to 80% of our income. Newlyweds immediately received a $1,000 loan from the government to establish a household. We had big programs for families. All day care and education were free. High schools were taken over by the government and college tuition was subsidized. Everyone was entitled to free handouts, such as food stamps, clothing, and housing.

We had another agency designed to monitor business. My brother-in-law owned a restaurant that had square tables. Government officials told him he had to replace them with round tables because people might bump themselves on the corners. Then they said he had to have additional bathroom facilities. It was just a small dairy business with a snack bar. He couldn't meet all the demands. Soon, he went out of business. If the government owned the large businesses and not many small ones existed, it could be in control.

Jews Not Welcome Here
We had consumer protection. We were told how to shop and what to buy. Free enterprise was essentially abolished. We had a planning agency specially designed for farmers. The agents would go to the farms, count the live-stock, then tell the farmers what to produce, and how to produce it.

"Mercy Killing" Redefined:

In 1944, I was a student teacher in a small village in the Alps. The villagers were surrounded by mountain passes which, in the winter, were closed off with snow, causing people to be isolated. So people intermarried and offspring were sometimes retarded. When I arrived, I was told there were 15 mentally retarded adults, but they were all useful and did good manual work. I knew one, named Vincent, very well. He was a janitor of the school.

One day I looked out the window and saw Vincent and others getting into a van. I asked my superior where they were going. She said to an institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade, and to read and write. The families were required to sign papers with a little clause that they could not visit for 6 months. They were told visits would interfere with the program and might cause homesickness.

As time passed, letters started to dribble back saying these people died a natural, merciful death. The villagers were not fooled. We suspected what was happening. Those people left in excellent physical health and all died within 6 months. We called this euthanasia.

The Final Steps - Gun Laws:
Next came gun registration. People were getting injured by guns. Hitler said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by matching serial numbers on guns. Most citizens were law abiding and dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms. Not long after-wards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in their guns. The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not to comply voluntarily.

Temple burning.
No more freedom of speech. Anyone who said something against the government was taken away. We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but also priests and ministers who spoke up.

Kristallnacht
Totalitarianism didn't come quickly, it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943, to realize full dictatorship in Austria. Had it happened overnight, my countrymen would have fought to the last breath. Instead, we had creeping gradualism. Now, our only weapons were broom handles. The whole idea sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our freedom.

After World War II, Russian troops occupied Austria. Women were raped, preteen to elderly. The press never wrote about this either. When the Soviets left in 1955, they took everything that they could, dismantling whole factories in the process. They sawed down whole orchards of fruit, and what they couldn't destroy, they burned. We called it The Burned Earth.

Most of the population barricaded themselves in their houses. Women hid in their cellars for 6 weeks as the troops mobilized. Those who couldn’t paid the price. There is a monument in Vienna today, dedicated to those women who were massacred by the Russians. This is an eye witness account.

Videos:Are the Oath Keepers the military wing of the Tea Party?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td0gw-75Zds&feature=player_embedded

April 15, 2010 — The Tea Party rallies are certainly a large gathering of people with many ideas about politics and society. But they rally around the central goal or idea of lowering taxes and lessening big government. The Oath Keepers are often guest speakers at the rallies, what are they trying to convey through what the Oath Keepers call education?

"This is my old, private blog that is now sadly neglected since I have launched Oath Keepers, which has truly taken off like a rocket, leaving me no time for personal blogging - not that I'm complaining. the Oath Keepers mission is very important, and worth the time and effort.

Go here: www.oathkeepers.org

However, if you want to see what prompted me to finally launch Oath Keepers, there are several posts on this blog that show my thinking.

Back in 2006 I wrote several scathing criticisms of the Bush Administration's absurd and dangerous claims of nearly unlimited executive "war" powers. Those articles built on my research at Yale Law School (where I won the Miller Prize for best paper on the Bill of Rights).

One of the most common refrains I get from Obama supporters is "where were you when Bush was violating the Constitution." Well, I was right here. Read this:"
